Maggie Maye's Tucson Tattoo Studio was opened in Tucson in 1998 by Greg and Susan Alexander. Greg and Susan moved to Tucson with their infant daughter, Maggie, a truckload of belongings, a few bucks, a good work ethic and loads of talent. Tucson seemed like a good place to put down roots. They've never looked back or regretted their decision to make Tucson their home.
Greg and Susan rented an old, neglected adobe building at 204 W. Grant Rd. They fell in love with it.
It took them 3 months of back breaking work but they turned the old building into a tattoo studio they could be proud of. Some of you might remember the first name they chose was "Desert Rose". They soon realized that just wasn't the right name, after all, Maggie Maye, their baby girl, was the reason they had moved to start a new life. So they quickly added her name, and "Maggie Maye's Desert Rose Tattoo Studio" was born.
Along the way Greg and Susan have made some great friends here in Tucson, had a beautiful baby boy, William, and done a lot of really great tattoo work.
In 2006 the opportunity came along to buy the complex that housed their tattoo studio. At about the same time Greg and Susan once again tweaked the name. "Maggie Maye's Desert Rose Tattoo" evolved into "Maggie Maye's Tucson Tattoo Studio". Tattooing was really hot in those days. I mean sizzling. The economy was soaring and the television was full of tattoo images. Greg and Susan worked even harder to keep up. They had some help. There have have been some beautiful artists working at Maggie Maye's. Marcos, Hector, Dina, Shane, Phil, Kevin, Jenn,Trisha, Starr, Tina, Romy, Danny....(if I've left you out - forgive me). They were all like family to us. Times change, things happen, people move around. During all the changes Greg and Susan were in that front room almost everyday. Greeting customers and doing their best work.
Now it's Susan in that front room. Greg is working by appointment only in his private studio behind Maggie Maye's off the courtyard of the Tucson Artist Colony. Come in and meet the crew up front or make an appointment to be tattooed by Greg in the back. Maggie Maye's Tattoo Studio is ready for the next ten years. |
